Why join me in my classes?
Do you ever feel out of place in a yoga class?
Do you ever feel like everyone else can do all the poses but you don’t even understand what the teacher is saying?
Have you ever hurt yourself at a yoga class, doing a pose that your body wasn't warmed up to do? Or explained in a way to safely move?
……
I’ve just returned from a beautiful holiday and I felt blessed to enjoy a daily practice of yoga or movement.
However one thing this did highlight, even though I am a trained yoga teacher, my practice is a gentle practice.
That doesn’t mean easy!!! Ask my current students - we do love a challenge to play with.
However, what I experienced on holiday were amazing teachers with really strong practices and very naturally flexible in their bodies.
As a 50 year old lady with M.S and arthritis, my body needs to be warmed up.
Some of the poses that I was instructed to do on holiday, I knew instantly that my body wasn’t ready for.
Cue inner dialogue of ‘not being good enough’, ‘I can do this - just do it’ ‘stop making a fuss’ ‘you did this move yesterday’ etc….
But thankfully I am secure in my body and practice that I either, didn’t do what was offered, or did a similar pose that without proper warm up I knew wouldn’t impact my body negatively.
Now that doesn’t mean those teachers did anything wrong - but it’s not right for me.
I need to softly move my body and prepare it well.
This reinforced why I teach the way I teach.
We enjoy a 1 hour practice for a reason - it gives you time to move and warm up and we explore during the term a sequence of moves that lead to a challenge or help your body explore a challenge.
And there are always lots of options to explore a grounded practice or a more supported option.
(Note I didn’t say easier option)
The language used during class helps support you and your body where it is at.
Today in practice.
Not yesterday or last week - today.
Who am I to say what works for you?
Your body is your teacher and I am your guide to support you to move in a supportive and fun way.
Ready to join me?
(My clients ages range from 30 - 80’s and I can help support absolute beginners whilst also having options to challenge and develop your practice)
